Kuruva
Dweep or Kuruva Island is a 950-acre (3.8 km2) protected river delta on the
Kabini River in the Wayanad district, Kerala, India. Kuruvadweep is the only
island sorrounded with naturally purified water source in Kerala.
This
of dense and evergreen forest is uninhabited and hence a home to rare kinds of
flora and fauna: uncommon species of birds, orchids and herbs namely. Its
unique geographical characteristics make it a place where not only the leaves
but also silence is evergreen being away from cities and thus it has become a
place of attraction. Most recently, it has been identified as the most visited
place in the district by tourists drawn from all over the globe.
Dwelling deep
into this island, you can sight many attractive things like bridges made up of
bamboo trees and other rare species of trees. The uninhabited island is home to
rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. Coming so much closer to the
nature, you might be feeling Kuruva Island as a nature's gift to Wayanad. A
place of idyllic beauty - The Kuruva islands make an idyllic spot for visitors
to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and be filled with peace and
tranquility.
Entry
to this island is restricted during rainy seasons (from June to September). The
island is opened during the months from October to May and there is a nominal
entry fee to the island. The time schedule is from 9 am to 5 pm.
How
to Reach : Kuruva Islands is 17 km east of Mananthavady and 10 km north west of
Pulpally, nearby towns in Wayanad District. More details can be sought in
