Thiruvamathur - Sri Abirameswarar Temple
Abirameshwarar
Temple is an ancient 7th century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort
Muthambikai. It is located 7 km north-west, from Villupuram station, on the
northern bank of a small river called as Pambai.
Thiruvaamathoor is the 21st Shiva temple in Nadu naadu region
region praised in Thevaram hymns (Padal petra sthalam). This temple is praised
by Thirunavukarasarar (Appar), Sambandar, Sundarar and Arunagirinathar.
Main Deity is
Swayambu Lingam known as Abirameswarar is facing east and his consort known as
Muthambikai facing west, in separate temple. Sthala Vruksham is Kondrai and
Vanni Vruksham seen in between the sanctum of Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathy.
