 There are two temples, one on the top of a hill and one on the base of the hill. The Thiruneermalai Perumal Temple on the top of the hill is dedicated to Sri Vishnu as Ranganatha Perumal. The temple at the foot of the hill is dedicated to Sri Vishnu as Neervanan Perumal.

 It is believed that a sage called Valmiki reached the top of this temple & worshipped Lord Narayanan in three forms – Ranganatha in reclining posture, Narasimha in sitting posture and Thiruvikrama is walking style. Valmiki was not happy with his prayers so he landed down the foothill to continue his prayers … to his astonishment his favorite ‘Kalyana Raman giving him darshan as ‘Neervannan’ with Sita, Lakshmana, Sathrungna Bharatha, Hanuman and others.

Significance of Tiruneermalai Temple :
Ø  Thirumangai Alvar, Bhoothathalvar have composed beautiful Paasurams on Lord Neervanna swamy. It is one of the compositions in Naalayira Divya Prabandha.
Ø  This Thiruneermalai Kshetram is also called as "Thoyagiri Kshetram" and also as "Thothadri". Thoya means "Water" and Adhiri means "Mountain" (malai). Since the mountain is surrounded by water, this sthalam is named as "Thiru Neermalai".
Ø  Tiruneermalai Neervanna Perumal temple is one among the 108 Divya Desas of Perumal  in Thondai Nadu.
Ø  Lord appears in four postures, as Nindraan, Irunthaan, Kidanthaan and Nadanthaan Thirukkolam.
Ø  Narasimha blesses here as Lord Bala Narasimha.
Ø  The tank is very beautiful, and as called Suddha Pushkarani, Ksheera Pushkarani, Swarna Pushkarani and Karunya Pushkarani.

The Perumal gives his seva in four different positions.
1.       Sri Neervannar - Nindraan Thirukkolam - Standing Posture
2.      Sri Narasimhar - Irundhaan Thirukkolam - Sitting posture.
3.      Sri Ranganathar - Kidanthaan Thirukkolam - Reclining posture.
4.      Sri Thiruvikraman - Nadanthaan Thirukkolam -  Walking posture

How to Reach :  Tiruneermalai is 10 km far from Chennai Tambaram and 5 km from Pallavaram. Bus facility is available from Tambaram and Pallavaram.
