Oil abishek to the Lord Shiva, Bowls of oil poured on the Lord does not flow
down but is absorbed in the Linga itself. When one sees the Linga Idol, despite
pouring of pots of oil, it would look as if no oil is applied on the idol. Till
today, it is a wonder that nobody knows where all the oil goes. The Linga also
does not look polished inspite of the large quantity of oil application. But is
only rough yet. It is said that since the Lord swallowed the Alakala poison to
protect the world, so much of oil is poured to cool down the heat of the
poison.
