The Alaska Zoo is a zoo in Anchorage, Alaska, located on 25 acres
(10 ha) of the Anchorage Hillside. It is a popular attraction in Alaska, with
nearly 200,000 visitors per year.
The zoo is currently
home to more than 100 birds and mammals representing some 50 species. The zoo
has the widest variety of animals native to the state of Alaska as well as some
exotics such as Amur tigers, Bactrian camels, and yaks.

In addition to
viewing, the zoo specializes in education, research, wildlife conservation, and
animal rehabilitation; many of the animals currently in the zoo were found
orphaned or injured.
The Alaska Zoo is a nonprofit established in 1969. Our mission is
to promote conservation of Arctic, sub-Arctic and like climate species through
education, research and community enrichment.
Since 1969, It cared
for orphaned and injured wildlife as the only zoo in Alaska.

animals. The Alaska Zoo invites you to take a walk on the wild side! The Zoo is
located 15 minutes south of downtown Anchorage in a park like setting. The Zoo
is a private, nonprofit providing a home for orphaned, injured and endangered
animals. While it is a great place to “wander and watch,” many visitors take
advantage of the “discovery tour,” a guided behind-the-scenes program available
daily in June, July and August. Check out the summer Tuesday night lecture
series on animal related topics and the Friday night live music on the lawn.
