Thusharagiri
Waterfalls is beautiful waterfall positioning itself in the Kodencherry village
of Kozhikode district in the Indian state of gods own country Kerala. As the
name mean, land and water have smitten an exceptional relationship at this
place.
The name itself means mist capped peaks i.e. mountains covered with
snow. Two streams breeding from the Western Ghats come together to form the
Chalippuzha River. The river deflects into three wandering waterfalls composing
a snow-clad mist which gives the name Thusharagiri to this waterfall. Thenpara
Waterfall falls from an altitude of 75 m (246 ft) making it the highest
waterfall of the three.
Of
these multiple waterfalls, the first three are within 500 metres and easy to
reach. They are Earattumukku, Thanni Muthassi and Mazhavil Chattam falls. The
next one, Thumpi thullum para waterfall, is about 1 km into the woods. There
are a couple more waterfalls deep into the forest, within 5 kms.
Two
streams originating from the Western Ghats meet here to form the Chalippuzha
River. The river diverges into three waterfalls creating a snowy spray, which
gives the name, 'Thusharagiri'. The word Thusharagiri means the snow-capped
mountain. Of the three, the highest waterfall is the Thenpara that falls from
an altitude of 75 metres.
How
To Reach : Thusharigiri waterfalls located around 50 kilometres (31 mi) from
Kozhikode, and 50 kms from Wayanad Kerala. The nearest town Kodancherry is around 11 kilometres (6.8
mi) from Thusharagiri. The other main towns situated here are Thiruvambady
which is 18 km away and Thamarassery which is 17 km away.
