Corpus Christi, Texas, there are miles of beaches, bountiful things to see and
do, and the margaritas are always within reach.
The Corpus
Christi Beach : North Beach,
historically known as Rincon Point, is a section of Corpus Christi, Texas
located on the far north end of the city. It is on the El Rincon peninsula
surrounded by Corpus Christi Bay and Nueces Bay. The name was changed to Corpus
Christi Beach in the 1950s, but the City Council officially changed the name
back to "North Beach" in 2012, because most people still called it
"North Beach" and many local business owners and residents requested
the change. The city then erected a giant archway with "North Beach"
written on it in 2012 at the gateway to this tourist area.
North Beach :
The pristine, clean sand and quaint cabana shelters make this beach a hotspot
for both parents and locals. Everyone can enjoy the clean beach against the
silhouette of the skyline, secure in the knowledge that the waves in the bay
are gentle and the waters calm and that there is no driving permitted on this
beach. Lifeguards are on duty for most of the summer season, ensuring increased
safety for all beachgoers.
Attractions :
Along with the beach, the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington are located
here. The Corpus Christi Beachwalk, a 10-foot-wide sidewalk that runs parallel
to the entire length of the 1.5-mile-long beach, was completed in 2012.
The U.S.S.
Lexington : For a glimpse of
history, step aboard the U.S.S. Lexington, a vintage WWII Essex Class aircraft
carrier that is now open to public. Nicknamed The Blue Ghost, the carrier has
found a permanent home in Corpus Christi Bay. Visitors can tour the ship
itself, and get even more information from the attached museum. In the summer,
you might even see the fireworks show over the water, sponsored by the museum.
