Tiruvilanagar Thuraikattum Vallalar Temple
Thurai Kattum Vallalar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Vila Nagar, Arupathy in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva. He is called as Sri Uchira Vaneswarar. His consort is known as Veyuru Tholi Ammai.
It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Thirugnana sambandar.
As the region was densely covered by the Vizhal grass, the place was named Vizhar Nagar which later changed as Vilar Nagar. When Saint Tirugnana Sambandar was on a pilgrimage to Kadaimudi and Mayiladuthurai, he could not proceed further due to heavy floods in Cauvery. The Saint was seeking somebody to show the way (thurai kattudhal), Lord came in the guise of a hunter and helped the saint.
