High Water Falls in DuPont State Forest

High Falls, on the Little River in Transylvania County, is a 125 ft (38 m) waterfall located in the DuPont State Forest, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

High Falls is located in Transylvania County on the Little River through the DuPont State Forest. It is one of 4 major waterfalls on the Little River in this area, the others being Triple Falls, Hooker Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. Above the falls itself, the river is level and calm. 

The falls consists of a wide, ever-steepening slide over granite, and the water generally stays on the rock the whole way down. In some places, the water free-falls for a few feet or jumps off the rock face, but it is not possible to get behind the falls anywhere.

How To Reach : Visitors may park at the Hooker Falls parking area, and then hike the Triple Falls / High Falls Trail for roughly 1 mile (past the view for Triple Falls). There are several views of the falls, one from an overlook that lets you view the entire falls.

Hooker WaterFalls - DuPont State Forest

Hooker Falls is a 14-foot (3 m) waterfall located in the DuPont State Forest, southeast of Brevard, North Carolina. Hooker Falls has been known for years to local residents and was named for Edmund Hooker, who operated a mill below the falls in the late 1800s. At the time, it was named Mill Shoals Falls.

Hooker Falls flows on the Little River through the DuPont State Forest. It is one of 4 major waterfalls on the Little River in this area, the others being High Falls, Triple Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls.

Though the falls is nothing spectacular since it's not very high (about 15 feet), it is pretty, and well worth the leg-stretcher required to get to it. Take the gated trail to the right of the sign board (Hooker Falls trail), and bear left at the first intersection. The trail, which is mostly level, leads about 1/4 mile through a forest of white pines and hemlocks. Some of the hemlocks have been treated for the Wooly Adelgid and are in great shape. 

Visitors may park at the Hooker Falls parking area, and then hike the short Hooker Falls Trail for roughly 1/4 mile. There are 2 views of the falls, the first overlooking the falls from above, and a second view from across the plunge pool that lets you view the entire falls.

Looking Glass Falls is a 60 feet waterfall in Western North Carolina Pisgah National Forest, located near Brevard.

The name comes from nearby Looking Glass Rock, which resembles a wintertime mirror (or "looking glass") of sunlight, as water freezes on its sides and reflects the sun, and from the name of the stream from which the falls plunge, Looking Glass Creek. The falls are about 60 feet tall.

Looking Glass waterfalls is one of the most popular and beautiful waterfalls in North Carolina. The falls are open to the public and are accessible on the side of U.S. Highway 276, approximately 5.6 miles north of the intersection of 276, U.S. Highway 64, and NC Highway 280 in Brevard, North Carolina. 

It is an extremely popular waterfall in the Pisgah National Forest, due to ease of access to the falls directly on the side of the road. There is a path that leads to the plunge pool. During the winter when the falls freeze solid, they are popular Ice Climbing destination.

The area surrounding the waterfall is full of adventure opportunities. Hike the nearby Moore Cove Falls Trail to a towering, wispy waterfall set deep in a scenic cove.

Little River Falls Alabama

Little River Falls in Little River Canyon

Little River Canyon is known for its beautiful waterfalls including Little River Falls and Grace’s High Falls. But one falls which is not seen as frequently is Martha’s Falls. Located just south of Little River Falls, it is a short hike from the parking lot along a mostly dirt path. Large rock protrude from the ground at points along the path and rock overhangs offer a great view of the canyon during the winter months.

Starting at the back of the Little River Falls parking lot, the trail enter the woods and curves along the edge of the wooden observation boardwalk. The path straightens out and continues through the woods along the edge of the canyon. Good views of the canyon are available at several stops along the path. At ½ mile in you will come to a large clearing with a gravel road. Just past this point you will come to the point at which the trail begins the descent into the canyon. Hand placed stones make up a beautiful stair case which leads downwards 160 feet to a rock shelf on the canyon floor. Depending on the season, the water level of the canyon varies greatly. During the drier season, you can easily explore the canyon floor up and down the canyon. During the wetter season, you will need to hike along the side of the canyon to the falls.

The falls themselves are a sight to see. If you happen to make the hike when the water is low, the exposed rock face makes great photos. When the water is lower, you will frequently see people swimming in the lake beneath the falls, which is much deeper than it looks from the surface.

The return hike is along the same path, back up the rock stair case and through the woods. Overall, this hike is great for families with little change in elevation except for the last 200 or so feet. The path is smooth and makes for a great day stroll. Carry a hammock and relax in a tree along the canyon wall or carry it down into the canyon and enjoy the waterfall.

There is a short hike leads to Martha’s Falls starts at the back of the Little River Falls parking lot, which is a popular swimming spot.
