Pataleeswarar Temple, Cuddalore is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in the town of Cuddalore. It was constructed during the Pallava and Medieval Chola periods. The Saivite saint Appar is believed to have adopted Saivism at this temple. This is the 18th of the 22 Tevara Stalams in the Nadu Naadu region of Tamilnadu.

The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Significance of the temple:
v  This is one of the Devaara Thiruthalam and 18th siva sthalam in Nadu Naadu region.
v  The temple is reverred in the verses of Tevaram, the 7th century Tamil Saiva canon by the Saint Thirugnanasambanthar and Appar.
v  Appar, is said to have been rescued from death by drowning here, by the grace of the presiding deity. The famous 'Sotrunai Vediyan' - Namachivayappatikam was composed here.
v  Vyagrapadar (the saint with tiger's claws and feet) is said to have worshipped here, as in Omampuliyur, Erukkattampuliyur, Perumpuliyur and Perumpatrappuliyur (Chidambaram).
v  The theertham for this temple is kedilam river and Vriksham is Paatiri.
v  The town Thirupapuliyur is named after the Pathiri Tree and the Puliyur, a tiger-legged saint who obtained absolution in the area.

Temple History: The temple is constructed in Dravidian style of architecture. It is classified as Gnazhar Kovil, where the image of the presiding deity is set up under Gnazhar trees. Trees like Kondai, Kongu and Theekku (teak) all fall in the category. The temples constructed in wood made from Gnazhar trees are also classified as Gnzhar Koil. Literary evidence is found in the works of Tirugnanasambandar, who refers the temple as Gnazhar Koil.

The lord of this temple saved Saint Appar from drowning when he was tied with a stone column and launched into sea as per the orders of the Pallava king Mahendra Varman. Appar, along with the stone, floated on the sea and safely drifted ashore here at Thirupathiripuliyur by the grace of god. Overwhelmed, he sang the thevaram "Eendralumai enaku endhaiyumai" in praise of the lord.

There is a belief/myth that by worshiping this Lord Shiva a single time is equal to 16 times worshiping the Shiva in Kasi, eight times in Thiruvannamalai, and three times in Chidambaram.

How To Reach : Tirupathiripuliyur Shiva Temple is located 0.5 km from Thirupathiripuliyur Railway Station, and about 1 Km. from Cuddalore bus stand.

Neyveli is a mining and power generation township in Cuddalore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.  has Panruti as Taluk headquarters . It is 62 kilometres (39 mi) inland from Bay of Bengal, west of Pondicherry and 197 kilometres (122 mi) south of Chennai, located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of Vadalur.

The Neyveli Township was developed after mining of lignite started under the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) in 1956 some 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north of the original Neyveli Village .

Temple History: Vamana approached Mahabali seeking 3 feet of land.  Lord measured the whole earth by one of His foot and the second covering the space and asked the emperor for the third.  Mahabali politely offered his head for the third.

Though Lord proved Bali’s glory, he had to incur the blame of the society for the method Lord used..  He prayed in this temple for relief.  Hence, the place is named Thiru (a respectful prefix) Maani (Brahammachari Vishnu) Kuzhi place – so, Thirumanikuzhi.

The legend (Sthala Puranam) related to Lord Mahavishnu’s Vamana Avtar and Mahabali Chakravarthi is beautifully chiselled on the front entrance wall of the sanctum.

There are several inscriptions found here from the Chola, Pandya and Vijayanagar periods, especially from the Later Chola period (1075 - 13th century)   Kulottunga Chola I, Vikrama Chola, Kulottunga Chola II, and Rajaraja III.
  
How To Reach : Thirumaanikuzhi Shiva Temple is located 10 km from Cuddalore and about 5 kms from Thiruvahindrapuram on the Cuddalore to Panruti (via Palur) route. There are town buses available to reach the temple from Panruti and Cuddalore. The nearest railway station is Cuddalore at 15 km. And the nearest airport is Chennai which is around 200 km.

Recently they found the siddar samadhi inside this temple, while temple committee doing the Kumbhabhishekham work, they found under the Vinayagar temple, there is subway in which Sithar jeeva samathi was found.

சாது சண்முக சாமிகள் ஜீவ சமாதி  (கடலூரில்) திருப்பாதிரிபுலியூரில் கம்மியம்பேட்டை என்னும் பகுதியில்  கெடிலம் நதிக்கரையில் அமைந்துள்ள விஸ்வநாதீஸ்வரர் சிவன் கோயிலில் அமைந்துள்ளது.  கோவிலில் தற்சமயம் புதுப்பிக்கும் வேலைகள் நடந்து வருகின்றன.   கடலூர் பஸ் நிலையத்தின் எதிரில் உள்ள பல்லவா ஹோட்டலை ஒட்டியுள்ள சந்தின் வழியாக நடந்து சென்றால் ஹைவேயை அடைந்துமேலே இடதுபுறம் நடந்தால் கொஞ்ச தூரத்தில் அடைந்து விடலாம்.  30 நிமிடம் நடக்க வேண்டியிருக்கும் ( 1.5 kms). விரும்புவோர் ஆட்டோ பிடித்து செல்லாம்.  சாமிகளைப் பற்றிய விபரம் எதுவும் தெரிந்து கொள்ளமுடியவில்லை. விபரம் அறிந்தோர் தெரிவிக்கலாம்.
