The Kasi Vishwanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple located in Tirupattur near Siruganur, Trichy, India. This temple is very close to Thirupattur Brahma TempleThe presiding deities are Sri Kasi Vishwanathar and Sri Visalachi amman. Once we enter into the temple, we can see the Vyakrapadhar Brindavanam.

Thirupattur village is famous for two great saints Jeeva samathi, Sage Patanjali Maharishi and Sage Viyakrabathar, (Pulikal siddhar) .

Vyaghrapada, that is, one having the feet like a tiger, was one of the mythical rishis (sage) of ancient India. His image and iconography depicts him as a human being but with the legs of a tiger. He is also shown having a tiger-like tail. Generally, he is shown alongside Patanjali, and both are depicted as offering homage to Shiva in his aspect as Natraja.

Saint Vyagrapathar (Pulikaal Siddhar) Vyagrapathar means legs of a Tiger, this Siddhar a contemporary of Saint Pathanjali is an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva had blessed him with legs as that of Tiger for him to move around the jungle. His jeeva samadhi is situated at Kasi Vishwanathar temple which is one kilometer from the Brahmapureeswarar temple.

Presiding deity is in the form of a Swayambu (self manifested) Lingam Since Lord Shiva absolved Brahma of His sins, He is known as Brahmapureeswarar in this temple.

The deity of Lord Brahma is a majestic 6 feet high. It is fully decorated with Turmeric. Lord Brahma is in meditative pose sitting in Padmasana on a lotus. Lord Brahma's Shrine is situated in the inner praharam of the Temple, as one turns left before entering Sri Brahmapureeswarar Shrine.

Panchanadhana Nataraja : There are five types of stones which are used to make statues of Gods and Goddesses, namely, Aalinga Nadhanam, Panchanadhanam, Singanadhanam, Yaanainadhanam and Yaazhinadhanam. Out of these, Panchanadhanam stones have the ability to absorb sun rays. The root of a plant called Andhaka Narimanam will pierce through and break one in a million stones. Such stones are called Panchanadhana Stones. When struck with a coin, they emit a sound equivalent to "Aum".

The Nataraja at Oothathur is made out of Panchanadhana Stone. This unique and beautiful idol stands majestically and is being worshipped ardently by those who suffer from kidney ailments. They garland this Nataraja with Vetiver and perform abhishekam with the water of Brahma Theertham. This water is then collected and given to the concerned person. On consuming the water for 45 days, the patients are relieved completely of their ailments. There are a number of testimonials available in the temple of those who have tried this remedy and found relief. This water is said to have medicinal properties and is capable of curing several diseases and ailments.

Significance of the temple:
v  This is one of the Devara Vaipu sthalam on the nandhi river bank.
v  The otathur siva temple has the pride of being sung by the Great saint, Appar - Thirunavukkarasar.
v  It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems.
v  On the ceiling, near the Dwajasthambam, can be seen the 27 stars along with the 12 sun signs facing the ground below and in a seperate panel nearby are the 9 planets.
v  Brahma Theertham right in front of the Lord shiva Sanctum.

v  This temple, said to have been originally built in the 7th Century and it was renovated by Raja Raja Chola I and Rajadhiraja Chola. There are over fifty inscriptions in this temple from the times of Raja Raja, Rajendra and Rajadhiraja.

On the NH 45 when you are travelling towards Trichy after you cross Thanthai Hans Roever College and Sanjeeviraya Hanuman Temple on your left, you would find a board reading Padalur. Turn left and proceed for about five kms then you will reach Ottathur Shiva Temple.

The temple is famous for its Kubera sculpture showing the Lord of Wealth on his Fish vehicle. This is installed in 12 spots in the temple representing the 12 zodiac signs. People throng the temple to worship Kubera for wealth.


The rays of Sun fall on Lord Ekambareswara on 19, 20 and 21 of Panguni month –March-April. There is also a sculptural marvel in the temple on the western Dwarapalakas pillar carved with such rare skill that it looks like a bull from one angle and an elephant from the other. This place is also called as Vijayapuram.

Chettikulam Murugan temple, situated on a small hill, it has two foot paths one for ascending and another for descending to reach, 240 steps to mount on and 243 steps to come down.

The speciality of the temple is that Lord Muruga faces the shiva temple which is located in Chettikulam village. Lord Dhandayuthapani idol is 4 feet tall holding a sugarcane with 11 parting lines called kanukkal, a form no where available in Muruga temples.

Dhandayutapaani who appeared as a Siddhar here is enshrined in a hill temple in the vicinity. The Lord Muruga Idol has Uchhi Kudumi(Tuff of Hair on top of Head). Also his darsan is in the Aandikola form. So Chettikulam Balathandabani Temple also known as Aandikola Murugan Temple.

Sage Agasthya worshipped here.  Saint Arunagiriar had praised the temple in his hymns. The presiding deity murugan is a swayambumurthi. On 3rd, 4th and 5th days of Masi (February-March) the rays of setting Sun fall on the deity. During the sun set time, the rays will fall on the deity from foot to the face.
