Yosemite Trip

After a long planning we finally set to go Yosemite National Park on Sunday 10-Mar-2013 early morning (1 day trip).

We took 2 rental cars with good deal( Dodge Charger & Nissan Altima ) to accommodate 10 of my friends . Actual plan to start by 5am but only we started by 6.30 am from Fremont CA took 680 , then 580 .

On the way to 120 highway we stopped to take few snap shots of  Almond Blossom, and then by 9 am we again stopped for breakfast in nice scenic place Don Pedro Lake . Had homemade Chappathi, Vegetable Kuruma, Rice uppuma , & Coconut chutney .

Another 2 hrs drive we reached Yosemite Park, I enjoyed lot to drive on this scenic road.  We had stopped in Half Dome View Point & Big Oak Flat Tunnel View point to see the beauty of Yosemite Valley  .

After few miles we stopped again in snow playing area where we played an hour in snow and seen the majestic El-capiton , and then moved to see the Bridalveil Fall. We crossed the Bridalveil Creek en route to reach the base of the waterfall. By 2 pm we had a good lunch nearby Bridalveil Creek. Tomota Rice , Coconut Rice , Curd Rice , Potota Curry , Mango Pickle & Chips. Excellent & tasty food in Chillness climate.

After full unlimited lunch , then we got more enthusiastic to see the Highest water fall in USA - Yosemite FallsWe took more photos and weather is so chill , Nearby falls entire area is surrounded by Giant Sequoias. While returning to home we saw the sunset, which was excellent and captured in camera.

We didn't see many more places in Yosemite, even though we captured the nice moments in our heart , to keep ever. My heart was overjoyed with the happy moments of  Yosemite. We ended our trip in Fremont, Saravana Bhavan .

With my friends Who made this trip very memorable one

Don Pedro Reservoir

Don Pedro Reservoir is an artificial lake formed by the construction of the New Don Pedro Dam across the Tuolumne River in the Stanislaus National Forest of Tuolumne County, California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Communities located nearby are Moccasin and La Grange.

We stopped here, while going to Yosemite National Park, Very nice & Scenic view of the lake can be seen.

El Capitan

El Capitan is a vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park, located on the north side of Yosemite Valley, near its western end. The granite monolith extends about 3,000 feet (900 m) from base to summit along its tallest face, and is one of the world's favorite challenges for rock climbers. El Capitan is composed almost entirely of El Capitan Granite, a pale, coarse-grained granite emplaced approximately 100 million years ago.

Half Dome

Half Dome is easily one of the most famous sites of Yosemite National Park. Half Dome is literally a dome that stretches more than 4,737 feet above the ground of Yosemite Valley. This dome is comprised of granite and its massive size is truly magnificent to behold.

Rising nearly 5,000 feet above Yosemite Valley and 8,800 feet above sea level, Half Dome is a Yosemite icon and a great challenge to many hikers. Permits to hike to the top of Half Dome are required seven days per week when the cables are up (as called for in the Half Dome Plan in order to protect wilderness character, reduce crowding, protect natural and cultural resources, and improve safety).

Hiking

The 14- to 16-mile round-trip hike to Half Dome is not for you if you're out of shape or unprepared. You will be gaining elevation (for a total of 4,800 feet) most of your way to the top of Half Dome. Most would say the reward is worth the effort. Along the way, you'll see outstanding views of Vernal and NevadaFalls, Liberty Cap, Half Dome, and--from the shoulder and summit--panoramic views of Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra.

Half Dome Cables

The most famous--or infamous--part of the hike is the ascent up the cables. The two metal cables allow hikers to climb the last 400 feet to the summit without rock climbing equipment. A maximum of 300 hikers will be allowed (about 225 day hikers and 75 backpackers) each day on the Half Dome Trail beyond the base of the sub dome.

Unfortunately we didn't plan for hiking, I am waiting for day to  be on top of Half Dome.  The below 3 photos i took from the net. (Waiting for the day to post my own photos)

Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls (2,425 ft) is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada of California, it is a major attraction in the park, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak.

Flows: approximately November through July, with peak flow in May.

Look for the ice cone at the base of the upper fall during winter and for roaring runoff April through June. Yosemite Falls, one of the world's tallest, is actually made up of three separate falls:

Upper Yosemite Fall (1,430 feet),
The middle cascades (675 feet), and
Lower Yosemite Fall (320 feet).

Yosemite Creek

Yosemite Lower Falls

can see Yosemite Falls from numerous places around Yosemite Valley, especially around Yosemite Village and Yosemite Lodge. A one-mile loop trail leads to the base of Lower Yosemite Fall (the eastern side of the loop, from the shuttle stop to the base of the waterfall, is wheelchair accessible).

It's also possible to hike to the top of Yosemite Falls as a strenuous, all-day hike (its around 4 miles )

Bridalveil Fall

Bridalveil Fall is one of the most prominent waterfalls in the Yosemite Valley in California, YosemiteNational Park. The waterfall is 188 metres (617 ft) in height . The primary source of Bridalveil Falls is Ostrander Lake, some 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) to the south.

In spring, it thunders; during the rest of the year, look for its characteristic light, swaying flow.

You can see Bridalveil Fall from near the tunnels on the Wawona Road (Highway 41) or Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120) and from a signed parking lot on your way into Yosemite Valley. You can walk to the base via a short but steep (up to 24% slope) trail in just a few minutes.

Yosemite National Park

It is not just a great valley, but a shrine to human foresight,

ü  the strength of granite,
ü  the power of glaciers,
ü  the persistence of life, and
ü  the tranquillity  of the High Sierra.

You can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. The park is named in World Heritage Site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1984.

Yosemite is home to countless waterfalls. The best time to see waterfalls is during spring, when most of the snowmelt occurs. Peak runoff typically occurs in May or June, with some waterfalls (including Yosemite Falls) often only a trickle or completely dry by August. Storms in late fall rejuvenate some of the waterfalls and all of them accumulate frost along their edges many nights during the winter.
