Thiruvenkadu - Sri Suvedharanyeswarar Swami Temple 

Swetharanyeswarar Temple (Budhan Sthalam) is a Hindu temple located in the village of Thiruvengadu near Poompuhar. The main deity is Lord Shiva - Swetharanyeswarar (lord of white forest) and the goddess is Brahma Vidya ambal. There is a separate Sannidhi for Budha (mercury). Significance of the temple:
v  The Tiruvengadu temple has the pride of being sung by the Great Four, Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar.
v  This is the 11th Shiva temple on the northern bank of Cauvery river praised in Thevaram hymns (Paadal Petra Sthalam).
v  It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems.
v  This temple is especially known for its unique incarnate of Lord Shiva called "Agora Murthi". He is one of the main god who is being prayed in this village.
v  Indiran, Airavatam, Budhan, Sun God Sooriyan and Moon God Chandiran are said to have worshipped God Shiva here.
v  From the stone inscriptions found inside this temple, it is seen that the earlier chola kings Aditya Chola and Rajaraja Chola have made a lot of contributions to this temple.
v  It is the fourth Navagraha sthalam of the 9 Navagraha Temples around kumbakonam, is the abode of Bhudhan or Bhudha (planet Mercury).

v  Budhan is the planetary ruler for knowledge, music, astrology, Maths, sculpting, medicine and language skills. Wednesdays are very auspicious day .

Significance of the temple :
Ø  There is a separate sanctum for the special deity Sri Kethu Baghawan and is one among the Navagraha Stalams (The Nine temples for the NavaGraham or planets).
Ø  The temple presiding deities are Lord Naganathaswamy and his consort Soundaryanaki.
Ø  Naganathar temple - kethu sthalam at Keezhaperumpallam, which is 8 kms away from Thiruvenkadu Bhuthan Sthalam. This place is also called as Vanagiri.
Ø  Ketu is generally referred to as a “shadow” planet. He is considered as Tail of the Demon Snake.

Ø  Kethu prayed to Naaganaadhaswami and was blessed and rid of his sins by Lord Siva. It is rare to find Kethu with his head. At this sthala, he can be seen worshipping Lord Siva with his folded hands held high.
