Sri Thiyagarajaswamy - Vadivudai Amman Temple is one of the ancient temples of Lord Shiva, located at Thiruvottiyur in the northern part of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu State, The temple has been in vogue from Pallava times of 7th century, who was great patron on temple architecture of South India. Later, during 11th century it was expanded by Chola kings. It has a five tiered gateway tower, a tank, and the overall temple area covering one acre.

Lord Shiva is worshiped as Aadhipureeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Thiripurasundhari (vadivudaiyamman). The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. Also  It is one of the Pournami sakthi darshan temples in Chennai Area.

The presiding deity is Sri Aadhipureeswarar is in the form of a mud mound covered by an armour. On the day of the full moon of the Tamil month Karthigai (Nov-Dec), the armour is removed and the representation of the God is visible to devotees. The Lord is anointed with Punugu Javvadhu, and Sampirani oils.

Significance of the temple:
v  This is one of the Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 19th siva sthalam in Thondai Nadu Chennai also One of the Tri-Shakti Temples.
v  The temple is reverred in the verses of Tevaram, the 7th century Tamil Saiva canon by 3 saivite saints Thirunavukarasar, Sundarar, and Sambandar.
v  Lord Shiva is known here as Adhipureeswarar, Tyagarajar and Padampakka Nathar.
v  The marriage of Sundarar, one of the Nayanmars, to Paravai Natchiar and Sangli Natchiar was held here with the blessings of Lord Shiva.
