Lake Lanier - Buford Dam

Lake Lanier (Lake Sidney Lanier) is a reservoir in Atlanta, state of Georgia, USA. It was created by the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956.

Powerhouse Park  - To see the dam back view.




It is also possible to walk around the dam using the Buford Dam Trail or Laurel Ridge Trail.

Warning : The water in the Chattahoochee is much colder than you think! 
Water is released from the bottom of Buford Dam and is approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Beware of Hypothermia -  If you fall into this cold water, get out quickly and warm yourself.





Recreation : Around 57 park areas are operated at Lake Lanier with facilities ranging from boat ramps and picnic areas to full service camp-grounds.
Buford Dam Park is a fee park and costs $4 per vehicle and $1 for pedestrians. 
It has a beach with a designated swim area, picnic tables on and near the beach, volleyball and basketball areas, and a couple of playgrounds, 
Laurel Ridge Trail (3.8 miles) goes through Buford Dam Park and continues through Powerhouse Park and Lower Overlook.
